Pauline was Mario's girlfriend in the original Donkey Kong. In official artwork, she wears a short red (shredded) cocktail dress although her dress is pink in the game. Her hair color varies between blonde, red, and brown. Her hair was blonde in the original Donkey Kong cabinet artwork, but she's since become a brunette.

Pauline appears in Donkey Kong, a DK-themed music game, and NES Pinball. She also makes a cameo appearance in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. Pauline was also a character in the Saturday Supercade Donkey Kong cartoons, as an animal trainer in the circus who's always trying to track down the escaped D.K. She's usually found near construction sites and giant monkeys.

Princess Daisy, the ruler of Sarasaland, was once just a recolor of Peach. She first appeared in Super Mario Land, a black-and-white GameBoy game, so it was easy to get the two characters confused. After all, she was the girl Mario had to rescue (this time from an amorous space alien named Tatanga). Some people thought "Daisy" was Princess Toadstool's first name, and that they were the same character.

Daisy appeared in the "Game Boy" series of the Nintendo Comics System, but she didn't look much different from Princess Toadstool (in fact, her hair was even lighter in color than Peach's). The princess in the ill-fated and badly written Super Mario Bros. film was named Daisy as well.

Daisy disappeared for a while, and didn't appear in any games (maybe she was busy ruling Sarasaland?) It seems that Tatanga took "no" for an answer a lot better than Bowser ever has, and Mario has only come to her rescue once. Once Daisy was finally brought back and colorized for Mario Tennis, we learned for certain that she has brown hair and wears a yellow dress. Since then, she's cut her hair to shoulder-length. Daisy wears short gloves, a flowery brooch and earrings, and a flowery-jewelled crown (which is sometimes pink or red). She also has a party dress that matches Peach's pink one, except in yellow and orange.

Daisy appears in many multi-player games like the Mario Party series and various sports games, usually teamed up with Peach. One of Peach's outfits in Super Smash Bros. Melee changes her into Daisy. There are rumors that Daisy and Luigi are a couple.

Princess Zelda looked a lot like Peach in the early days - she wore a pink, poofy dress and had reddish, bunchy hair (seems to be a common theme in early video games). The images at right were taken from the Zelda II instruction manual.

As time passed and game graphics improved, Zelda's style changed and became more elaborate. She now has long, straight blonde hair, a slimmer dress that includes shoulder armour, and a crown that is worn on the forehead.

Zelda from the Legend of Zelda and Captain N cartoon series had a very different look that didn't appear in any games.
